Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has secured significant political endorsements as he intensifies his consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Prominent leaders, including Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, have formally backed his ambition.

During recent visits to their residences, the leaders expressed confidence in Hamzat’s ability to sustain the developmental progress initiated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Senator Abiru, representing Lagos East, noted that the consultations reflect the All Progressives Congress (APC) values of unity and discipline, pledging his full support for the deputy governor.

Wale Edun characterised the engagements as a vital exercise in grassroots democracy.

While endorsing Hamzat’s competence, Edun urged the deputy governor to prioritise economic growth and poverty reduction while also commending President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms.

Gbajabiamila affirmed his support, describing Hamzat as a man of honour.

He stated that Lagos would be in “safe hands” under Hamzat’s leadership and pledged the support of his Surulere constituency.

In the Badagry Division, Hamzat’s consultative tour included the launch of the “City Boy Movement,” an initiative designed to strengthen the APC’s political foundation across Lagos and beyond.

The visit drew widespread endorsements from local political and community leaders.

Representing the Badagry community, Joseph Bamgbose, chairman of the movement, advocated for greater inclusion of Badagry indigenes in senior civil service roles and appointive positions.

Additionally, traditional ruler Oba Sejiro Olamilekan James pledged his support while calling for government intervention to improve local infrastructure and complete a community chalet.

Senator Ganiyu Solomon concluded the visit by assuring stakeholders that a Hamzat-led administration would give due consideration to the community’s requests.
