A fire incident erupted on Sunday at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, prompting an immediate emergency response by aviation authorities.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident in a statement shared on its official X account, assuring the public that firefighters were already working to bring the situation under control.
According to the authority, its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was promptly deployed to the affected terminal to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” the statement said.
It added, “The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation.”
FAAN also reassured travellers and the general public that no casualties or fatalities had been recorded as of the time of the announcement.
“There have been no reported casualties or loss of life,” the authority stated.
The agency did not immediately disclose the cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the terminal.
It, however, said investigations and emergency response efforts were ongoing.
Passengers and airport users have been advised to remain calm while emergency personnel continue efforts to fully secure the affected area.
FAAN said it would provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
