The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has paid a glowing tribute to his late predecessor, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, describing him as a royal icon who embodied humility, wisdom, and a strong commitment to national unity.
In a statement marking the fourth anniversary of the late monarch’s passing, the Alaafin recalled Oba Adeyemi III’s deep knowledge of history, captivating public presence, and extraordinary leadership style.
Oba Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83, was remembered for using his position to promote peace and uphold integrity.
The Alaafin noted that the late monarch’s speeches, delivered in both Yoruba and English, often captivated audiences and earned standing ovations, reflecting his intellectual depth and eloquence.
As a selfless and detribalised traditional ruler, Oba Adeyemi III sustained his goodwill and pedigree through his passion for the welfare of his subjects.
His legacy includes the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture, efforts toward the unity and progress of the Yoruba, and the promotion of the traditional institution.
Since ascending the throne, Oba Owoade has continued to grow the metropolis into a city while balancing rapid development with the preservation of traditional norms and values.
