Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has warned stakeholders in the Koka Ilase kingship dispute that the state government will enforce the law and established tradition as it investigates the reported emergence of two monarchs in the community.
Adeleke directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of another king for Koka Ilase in Obokun Local Government Area.
The governor said the investigation was necessary to establish the facts and determine the lawful position on the disputed traditional stool.
“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight,” Adeleke said.
He further directed the ministry to review the matter and ensure that due process was followed in line with Osun’s chieftaincy laws and the traditions governing the community.
The governor also appealed to all parties involved in the dispute to maintain peace while the government carries out the investigation.
“Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations, and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” he said.
The directive came as Adeleke commenced a vacation in Europe, where he is also expected to undergo medical examinations.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor will spend part of the vacation in the United Kingdom and visit other destinations that will be announced subsequently.
Adeleke described the trip as a short break to enable him to refresh and prepare for the demands of governance.
“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” he stated.
