Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the enrolment of operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, into the state’s contributory health insurance scheme as part of efforts to improve the welfare of security personnel in the state.
The governor also approved the inclusion of the operatives in the contributory pension scheme and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku.
According to the commissioner, the welfare package is aimed at boosting the morale and productivity of officers engaged in security operations across the state.
Ajanaku stated that the initiative would strengthen the commitment of the operatives to protecting lives and property in Ondo State.
“The initiative by Governor Aiyedatiwa was aimed at boosting the morale of security operatives and enhancing their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state,” the statement read.
He added that the governor had also approved the issuance of Warrants of Service Enlistment to officers and personnel of the agency pending the completion of the necessary legal framework.
The commissioner explained that the decision would further reinforce the institutional structure of the Amotekun corps and improve its operational efficiency.
He noted that, in addition to the newly approved pension and social insurance schemes, operatives of the agency already benefit from an existing life insurance policy provided by the state government.
Ajanaku further disclosed that no fewer than 650 operatives had been deployed across the 18 local government areas of the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
According to him, the deployment is part of security measures put in place to maintain peace and ensure the safety of residents before, during and after the festivities.
