Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration recorded a fresh wave of departures on Monday, November 2, as three government appointees resigned their positions, while a political party chairman in Ogbomoso North also announced his exit.
Those who resigned from government positions are Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ayobami Oluwaseun Ojo; Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning, Simeon Adegbola Oyeleke; and member of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Sunday Olugbenga Falana.
Separately, Jimoh Sikiru Idowu, chairman of the PDP/APM Alliance in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, also resigned his position.
The departures come amid heightened political activity in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reports have similarly linked the recent exits from Makinde’s administration to evolving political alignments, although the individual resignation letters do not establish such a connection.
Ojo, who hails from Ago-Are in Atisbo Local Government Area, submitted his resignation in a letter dated November 2 and addressed to Makinde through the Secretary to the State Government.
Referencing his appointment letter of June 22, 2026, Ojo said he was resigning as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning with immediate effect.
He expressed appreciation to Makinde for giving him the opportunity to serve the state, describing his tenure as “a great honour” and saying he did not take the opportunity lightly. Ojo did not give any specific reason for his resignation.
Oyeleke, a former two-term member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and former local government chairman, also submitted his resignation on Monday.
Unlike Ojo and Falana, however, Oyeleke gave a reason for leaving office.
He said he was no longer comfortable with the working environment, which he described as unconducive to effectively pursuing and fulfilling the aspirations of his people within the administration.
Despite his decision, Oyeleke thanked Makinde for his leadership, encouragement and support, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the administration’s policies and development programmes.
Ojo and Oyeleke were among the officials sworn into the Oyo State Executive Council in June 2026.
Makinde had assigned Ojo to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, while Oyeleke was appointed Commissioner for Special Duties before later serving as Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning.
Falana, who hails from Ogbomoso, resigned his appointment as a member of OYSIEC in a letter dated November 2 addressed to the governor through the Chief of Staff.
His resignation also took immediate effect.
He thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve on the state electoral commission and described his experience as worthwhile, but did not disclose the reason for his departure.
Falana was among the members appointed to OYSIEC by Makinde in October 2025.
The commission is responsible for overseeing local government elections in Oyo State.
Meanwhile, Idowu announced his resignation as chairman of the PDP/APM Alliance in Ogbomoso North in a separate letter to the party executives.
He said his decision followed careful reflection and consultations and was in the best interest of the party as well as his personal commitments.
Idowu thanked party executives, stakeholders and members for their support during his tenure, which he said involved grassroots mobilisation, promoting party unity and representation.
He also pledged to ensure a smooth handover of party documents, assets and records in his custody to the appropriate authority.
The four departures have added to the political developments unfolding in Oyo State as parties and political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
