The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has commenced an investigation into allegations that some lecturers failed to upload students’ results, a situation reportedly threatening to delay the graduation of affected students and force some to spend additional years at the institution.

The university acknowledged the allegations on Saturday in a post on its official X handle, saying the matter was already being examined.

“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to this allegation, and the matter is currently being looked into. Thank you for bringing it to our attention,” the university said.

The controversy gained attention following claims that more than 100 students were allegedly unable to graduate after a lecturer purportedly failed to upload their results dating back to their 300-level studies.

According to the allegations, some of the students could be required to spend another academic year at the university despite reportedly completing their courses, because the affected results were allegedly not uploaded.

The issue was further amplified on X by a user identified as @TheAjakeManger, who claimed that the situation extended beyond the students initially reported to be affected.

The user also alleged that a Head of Department had threatened some students who raised concerns about the matter, while claiming that students currently in 400 level were experiencing similar difficulties.

“Dear @jidesanwoolu, they are now threatening the students and it’s not just this set that are affected. The current 400l are also facing the same setback,” the user wrote.

The user further alleged that more than 1,000 students across the 200, 300 and 400 levels of the department were facing related academic challenges.

Two lecturers have been mentioned in connection with the allegations circulating online.

However, neither lecturer has been found culpable, as the university management said its investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Amid the controversy, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) president, Akinteye Babatunde, said the student body had commenced discussions with LASU management through NANS and the Joint Campus Committee, Lagos Axis.

Babatunde appealed to affected students to remain calm, saying the university management had assured student representatives that the matter would be resolved next week.

“To all @LASUOfficial students that are affected with this, please remain calm as discussions have been opened with the management by the leadership of NANS and JCC LAGOS AXIS.

“The Management has assured us of resolving the issue next week, so please remain calm and don’t take actions that will be counterproductive,” he said.

The university is expected to provide further clarification on the allegations and the outcome of its inquiry as discussions with student representatives continue.
