An unidentified woman has been found dead on church premises in the Obelewo area of Osogbo, Osun State, with her left wrist reportedly severed and taken away.
The discovery has prompted an investigation by the Osun State Police Command, as detectives work to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, in a statement on Sunday, police detectives visited the scene following the discovery of the woman’s body.
Iniedu said preliminary investigations indicated that the woman had allegedly been slaughtered, while her left wrist was cut off and taken away by unidentified persons.
“The investigations revealed that the deceased was slaughtered and her left wrist severed and taken away by unknown persons,” the police spokesperson said.
He, however, noted that the motive for the killing and the circumstances that led to the woman’s death had not yet been established.
The police said efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased and unravel what happened before and after the killing.
The woman’s remains were subsequently taken to a hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted as part of the investigation.
“The corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy,” Iniedu said.
He added that the State Command Investigation Department had commenced a full investigation into the incident.
