Ogun State has approved the appointment of 51-year-old Prince Shehu Quadri Taiwo as the new Alaperu of Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area, succeeding the late Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo.

Approval for the appointment was given by the Ogun State Executive Council at its meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2026. The appointment took effect the same day.

Council also approved the appointment of Prince Akeem Akinyemi as the new Awujako of Ijako-Orile in Yewa North Local Government Area, with his appointment equally taking effect from October 15.

Prince Taiwo’s emergence follows the death of Oba Idowu-Basibo, who passed away in February 2025 after more than two decades on the Alaperu throne.

The late monarch was widely remembered for his contributions to peace, development and the growth of Iperu-Remo.

The new Alaperu emerged from the Fibigbuwa Ruling House, marking a fresh phase in the traditional leadership of the ancient Remo community.

Prince Taiwo is from the distinguished Adenaike Ogunbona family of Iperu-Remo.

He is the son of Prince Raji Sofowora Adenaike Ogunbona, popularly known as Igbonrokiji I, and is connected to the town’s longstanding traditional heritage.

His appointment comes about 20 months after the death of the former monarch and ends the period of transition following the vacancy on the Alaperu stool.

The Alaperu institution holds considerable cultural and traditional significance for Iperu-Remo, serving as a symbol of the community’s identity, unity and heritage.

Prince Taiwo’s emergence is therefore expected to provide continuity in the traditional administration of Iperu while sustaining the cultural values associated with the ancient town.

The late Oba Idowu-Basibo, whose death was announced in February 2025, was the 21st Alaperu of Iperu and the fifth monarch from the Odoru Ruling House to occupy the throne.

His successor now assumes the traditional leadership of Iperu at a time when the community continues to preserve its historical institutions and cultural traditions.
