No fewer than 2,339,233 eligible voters will participate in the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, following the release of the updated register of voters by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The updated register was presented to political parties in Osogbo by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, as part of preparations for the forthcoming election.
According to Babalola, the revised voter register reflects the outcome of the 2025–2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and inter-state transfer of voters, which increased the number of registered voters from the 1,954,800 recorded in the 2023 register to 2,339,233.
A breakdown of the register shows that female voters constitute 52.79 per cent of the electorate, while young people between the ages of 18 and 34 account for 36.64 per cent of registered voters, highlighting the significant role women and youths are expected to play in deciding the next governor.
While presenting the electronic register, Babalola said the exercise demonstrated INEC’s commitment to conducting transparent, credible and inclusive elections.
She urged political parties and other stakeholders to carefully scrutinise the register and work collectively to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner also appealed to political parties, governorship candidates and their supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns, warning against violence, vote buying and other electoral offences capable of undermining the integrity of the election.
She further clarified issues raised by political parties regarding the updated register, including fresh voter registrations, transfers and the distribution of registered voters across polling units across the state.
As part of efforts to deepen electoral inclusion, INEC also introduced the Braille Ballot Guide for visually impaired voters.
The guide is designed to enable them to vote independently while also providing information on electoral offences ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
