The Oyo State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of former Commissioner for Health, Ladipo Taiwo, as a commissioner in the state, clearing the way for his return to the state executive council.
The confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Special Duties during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Presenting the committee’s report, the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Committee on Special Duties, Abiodun Fadeyi, informed lawmakers that Taiwo had undergone the required screening and was found qualified, competent and suitable for appointment as a commissioner.
Based on the committee’s recommendation, the House unanimously approved the nominee’s appointment.
Governor Seyi Makinde had forwarded Taiwo’s name to the Assembly in a letter dated June 30, 2026, requesting his screening and confirmation in line with Section 192 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
In the correspondence addressed to the Speaker, the governor urged lawmakers to give the nomination their “usual kind and expeditious consideration”.
Part of the letter read: “I write to notify the Honourable Speaker and Members of the House of my desire to present Ladipo Taiwo for screening and confirmation for appointment as commissioner in our state.”
Makinde stated that the nomination complied with the constitutional provisions guiding the appointment of commissioners and expressed confidence that the House would conduct a fair and timely confirmation process.
Following the screening exercise, the Committee on Special Duties recommended Taiwo for confirmation, a recommendation that received the unanimous endorsement of members during plenary.
Taiwo is returning to the Oyo State Executive Council, having previously served as the state’s Commissioner for Health under Governor Makinde’s administration.
His confirmation adds another member to the state cabinet as the Makinde administration continues efforts to strengthen governance and service delivery across various sectors.
