The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended the inauguration of its Oriade Unit canvassers following a tragic incident in Ede that reportedly claimed lives and left several party members injured.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Osun APC Campaign Council, the Director-General, Hon. Oluwole Oke, announced that the inauguration, initially scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026, had been postponed indefinitely.
According to Oke, the decision was necessitated by an incident that occurred during a party procession in Ede, where a truck allegedly linked to the PDACCORD movement collided with APC supporters.
The crash reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities, while at least nine injured persons are currently receiving medical treatment.
The party also noted that it is mourning the death of Ajayi Rogba of Esa-Oke, who was reportedly killed on Wednesday.
Oke described the twin tragedies as deeply distressing for the APC family across the state.
He said the incidents had significantly affected the mood of party members and leaders, prompting the leadership to suspend planned political activities in order to focus on supporting those directly impacted.
The APC Campaign Council disclosed that immediate measures had been put in place to ensure that injured members receive necessary medical attention and support.
It added that Thursday had been set aside for visits to injured victims and bereaved families as a demonstration of solidarity during the difficult period.
The party leadership appealed to members and supporters to remain peaceful, united, and law-abiding while the situation is being addressed.
“We urge all members to remain calm, united, and law-abiding as we navigate this moment with dignity, restraint, and compassion,” the statement said.
The APC has yet to announce a new date for the inauguration of the Oriade Unit canvassers.
