The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Ogun State Axis, has declared support for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s proposed senatorial ambition in 2027, while also passing a vote of confidence in his administration over its education policies and student-focused initiatives.
The resolution formed part of a communiqué issued after the inaugural Senate meeting of the NANS JCC Ogun State Axis for the 2025/2026 parliamentary session, held at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
In the communiqué signed by the Chairman of NANS JCC Ogun State, Tijani Habeebullahi Adekunle, the student body praised Governor Abiodun for what it described as sustained investments in education and programmes aimed at improving student welfare across the state.
According to the students, the governor’s administration has introduced notable innovations that have strengthened the education sector, particularly through the OgunLearn digital learning initiative and ongoing infrastructure development in schools across the state.
The Senate described Ogun State as a pace-setter in modern education delivery and commended both Governor Abiodun and the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology for their contributions to educational advancement.
The students stated that their endorsement of Abiodun’s 2027 senatorial aspiration was based on his performance in office and his commitment to policies that have positively impacted students and educational institutions.
They also expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, commending his administration’s economic and governance reforms.
The students urged Nigerians to remain supportive and patient as the federal government continues efforts to address national challenges and reposition the country.
In addition, they formally endorsed Tinubu’s anticipated re-election bid in 2027, describing him as a courageous leader pursuing transformative reforms.
The communiqué equally recognised the contributions of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for his interventions in the education sector.
The students highlighted his bursary programmes for thousands of Ogun students, provision of solar-powered streetlights on campuses, donation of buses to support student transportation, and sponsorship of legislation that facilitated the upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to a University of Technology.
On security matters, the Senate applauded the Ogun State commands of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force for their efforts in combating kidnapping and banditry. It noted that the collaboration between the agencies has helped maintain relative peace and security across tertiary institutions in the state.
The students, however, called on the federal government, through the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Federal Ministry of Education, to strengthen security arrangements in educational institutions nationwide.
They stressed that protecting students and educational communities should remain a priority for the country.
The meeting also featured a by-election to fill vacant Senate positions within the NANS JCC Ogun State structure. Adebanjo Ilyas Olalekan emerged as Deputy Chairman, while Olabode Israel Tejumola was elected Financial Secretary.
Comrade Makinde Memunat was elected Vice Chairman for Inter-Campus Affairs, Fadele Ayomide became Director of Mobilization, and Comrade Oyenekan Mayowa was elected Director of Special Duties.
The Senate further congratulated the newly elected NANS National President, Babatunde Akinteye, urging him to promote unity, advocacy and progress within the Nigerian student movement.
It also commended the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Student Matters, Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, for encouraging peaceful engagement and cooperation among students across tertiary institutions in the state.
The communiqué was endorsed by student union leaders from several higher institutions in Ogun State, including Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and Ogun State Institute of Technology.
