The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday will inaugurate its National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election as the party intensifies preparations to retain control of the South-West state.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to hold at the Kashim Shettima Hall of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja by noon, according to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

The APC named Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, as chairman of the campaign council, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio will serve as co-chairman.

The council will work to ensure the re-election of the incumbent governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji, who has received the party’s ticket to seek a second term.

Also appointed into the leadership structure of the strategic team is Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who will function as secretary of the council.

The party explained that the council consists of serving and former governors, senior National Assembly officers and other top APC stakeholders who will oversee campaign operations ahead of the governorship poll.

According to the APC, the council’s primary responsibility is to coordinate campaign activities and strengthen mobilisation efforts across the state as the election approaches.

To ensure effective coordination, the party said several specialised subcommittees had been constituted to handle major aspects of the campaign.

These include election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, media and publicity, women and youth mobilisation, security, as well as administrative and secretariat duties.

In the statement, the APC described the inauguration as a significant stage in its preparations for the governorship contest.

“The Council, comprised of serving and former governors, principal officers of the National Assembly, and other eminent party leaders, is tasked with coordinating and driving the Party’s campaign activities ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election,” the statement noted.

The party further stated that the inauguration would officially signal the beginning of intensified statewide mobilisation efforts aimed at securing victory in the election.

“The inauguration is an important part of activities to kick-start mobilisation across Ekiti State towards a victorious outing in the upcoming governorship election,” the APC added.

The development is expected to attract national political attention because of the calibre of party leaders involved and the strategic importance of Ekiti State to the APC’s dominance in the South-West region.

Political analysts are also expected to monitor the activities of the campaign council closely as the governorship race gathers momentum in the state.
