Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has renewed allegations that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is orchestrating a plan to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

In a statement released Tuesday via his official X account, Fayose urged observers to watch “unfolding events”, suggesting that recent accusations against the monarch are part of a calculated scheme to justify his removal.

He claimed that while the state government had previously denied any rift between the governor and the Olubadan, new allegations of the monarch plotting to impeach the governor are being used to “prepare grounds” for a formal query against him.

The claims arrive amid heightened political tension in Oyo State.

In a statement on his verified Facebook page, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, distanced himself from any alleged efforts by lawmakers to impeach the governor.

Representing the Atiba State Constituency, Oyekola emphasised his loyalty to Makinde and denied any involvement in meetings aimed at destabilising the state.

The Oyo State government had dismissed Fayose’s assertions as baseless.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, characterised the allegations as “thoughtless propaganda” from political opponents, maintaining that the administration has never contemplated or discussed removing the monarch.

The Olubadan’s media aide also addressed the rumours, stating there is no evidence of friction between the palace and the state government.
