The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 62-year-old woman at Ori-Apata Oderemi in Ido Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed in a statement issued Friday in Ibadan that the suspects, Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to the police, the victim was discovered lying in a pool of blood along a bush path within the community, with a deep cut on her neck. The gruesome discovery was reportedly made by a Good Samaritan, who alerted authorities.

Ayanlade explained that detectives swiftly visited the scene upon receiving the report. Preliminary investigations revealed that the body had likely been at the location for at least seven days before it was found.

The remains were subsequently evacuated to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

“As part of efforts to ensure a thorough investigation, the scene was immediately sealed off and forensic experts were deployed to process and gather necessary evidence to aid in identifying, arresting and prosecuting the perpetrator(s),” the statement said.

In line with standard investigative procedure, the case has been transferred to the State CID for a comprehensive and discreet inquiry.

Police confirmed that the two suspects, both residents of the Ori-Apata area of Ido, are assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other possible accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, led a high-powered delegation of the state government to the community to assess the security situation and sympathise with the bereaved family.

The CP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate necessary deployments to ensure sustained peace and stability in the area.

The command urged members of the public and the victim’s family to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

It added that, in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant non-state actors, intensive joint patrols have commenced across the affected community and adjoining areas.

Tactical teams and operational assets have also been strategically deployed to strengthen visibility policing and reassure residents of their safety.

The police assured that no stone would be left unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing all those involved to justice.

Residents were encouraged to provide credible information to support ongoing investigations.
