The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has announced traffic restrictions across parts of Agege, Lagos, ahead of a mini-marathon organised in support of President Bola Tinubu.
In a traffic advisory posted on its official X handle on Sunday, LASTMA disclosed that the event, tagged Run for Asiwaju 2027, will commence from Agege Local Government Area and move inward Odo Eran, passing through Oba Ogunji, Oke Koto, Oniwaya and Dopemu.
The route will further connect Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road to Agbotikuyo, link Old Ipaja Motor Road and terminate at Orile Agege within the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area.
According to the agency, vehicular movement along the affected corridors will be temporarily restricted during the event, with motorists advised to use alternative routes to minimise disruption.
LASTMA advised that vehicles approaching from Wemco Road should divert through Ogba, proceed to Excellent Hotel, connect College Road to Iju Road and continue their journeys. Motorists coming from Pen Cinema were urged to ply Moshalashi Alhaja Road, link Mobil Ashade and proceed accordingly.
The mini-marathon is being organised by the Orile-Agege LCDA under its chairman, Dipo Liadi. Organisers said the initiative is designed to promote unity, discover grassroots athletic talent and mobilise community support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event features multiple categories, including youths, professionals, elderly participants, persons with disabilities, VIPs, and representatives of Hausa and Igbo communities, underscoring its inclusive outlook.
Prizes for the race total ₦2.3 million, with the first 200 finishers set to receive ₦10,000 each, while seven elite athletes will be awarded ₦50,000 apiece.
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, a prominent supporter of the initiative, had earlier confirmed his participation in the VIP category. He described the marathon as a symbol of what he termed President Tinubu’s transformative leadership.
In a separate post last week, Obasa reiterated that the marathon would reward excellence and encourage healthy competition among participants.
LASTMA urged road users to cooperate with traffic officials deployed for the event and to plan their movements in advance to avoid unnecessary delays.
