The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Kingsley Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic. His confirmation came after a screening session held on the floor of the Senate floor.
Born in 1978, Ude previously served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State. During his screening, senators engaged him on a range of national and diplomatic issues, including Nigeria’s response to recent threats reportedly made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Responding, Ude said President Bola Tinubu’s administration was handling the matter “through diplomatic channels,” describing it as “a matter of diplomacy rather than law.”
He also weighed in on the long-standing debate over separating the offices of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, noting that the effectiveness of either arrangement depends on “the integrity and independence of whoever occupies the office.”
Satisfied with his answers, the Senate asked him to take a bow and subsequently confirmed his nomination.
Ude’s confirmation comes in the wake of the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who stepped down following allegations of certificate scandal.
