The Oyo State government has formally opened the rehabilitated Eleyele-Water Road in Ibadan on Thursday.
According to a press statement by the state commissioner for information and orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the road was commissioned by Hon. Busoye Ogunlade, Chairman, Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) which spearheaded the project.
Oyelade described the exercise as a significant stride toward infrastructure renewal and testament to the state government’s commitment to improving transportation networks, stimulating economic growth, and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Road Rehabilitation: A Catalyst for Progress
The OYSROMA boss emphasized the strategic importance of the road, saying: “This road will not only ease congestion on the Eleyele-Sango corridor but also serve as a critical diversion for commuters heading toward Ologuneru Road.”
Completed in just one week, the rehabilitation addressed deteriorated asphalt sections, ensuring smoother commutes and reduced travel times. The upgrade also incorporates measures to minimize flooding—a persistent challenge in the area—while boosting property values and business opportunities for local residents.
“Transportation infrastructure is the backbone of economic development,” Ogunlade added.
Part of a Broader Infrastructure Vision
Ogunlade revealed that the Eleyele-Water Road is one of four strategic road projects prioritized by the Oyo State government under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration. Others, he noted, include Zion Plaza-Olusoji Road, Bashorun Oluwo-Nla Road and Agbowo Road
According to him, the initiatives align with the state’s urban development agenda, which aims to modernize key routes and support long-term economic resilience.
Community Partnership for Sustainable Infrastructure
While celebrating the project’s completion, Ogunlade urged residents to play an active role in maintaining the road’s condition. “Infrastructure durability requires collective effort,” he stressed. “We call on communities to safeguard these assets for future generations.”
He also commended stakeholders and residents for their patience and cooperation, reaffirming Governor Seyi Makinde’s pledge to deliver “people-focused projects that transform lives and livelihoods.”
A Milestone for Ibadan’s Future
The Eleyele-Water Road rehabilitation marks a pivotal step in Oyo State’s infrastructure overhaul, addressing both immediate traffic challenges and long-term urban planning goals. As the state continues to invest in critical sectors, residents can anticipate improved connectivity, reduced environmental risks, and enhanced economic prospects.
