Suspected bandits have attacked a security base of Operation Burst along the Igbeti-Igboho Road in Oyo State, setting the facility and an abandoned vehicle on fire before fleeing with a generator and motorcycle.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., in an area connecting Olorunsogo and Oorelope Local Government Areas.
Chairman of Olorunsogo Local Government Area, Kazeem Olayanju, confirmed the incident, saying no casualty was recorded.
According to Olayanju, the attackers targeted the security post constructed for Operation Burst personnel and subsequently set the facility ablaze.
He said an abandoned vehicle parked at the location was also burnt, while the assailants made away with the generator and a motorcycle belonging to the security outfit.
“The information is true. But there is no casualty. They burnt the security post we constructed for them.
“They also set ablaze an abandoned vehicle there. They also carted away their generator and motorcycle. It occurred today around 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.,” he said.
Operation Burst is a joint security outfit comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The outfit was established by the administration of the late former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, to strengthen security operations and combat criminal activities across the state.
The latest attack comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Oyo State, particularly communities and roads linking the state’s northern local government areas.
Details surrounding the identity and whereabouts of the assailants still unclear.
