Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Hassan, 66, died at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, according to a burial announcement made by veteran actor Jide Kosoko on Instagram.

Kosoko said the late actor’s remains would be transported to Ilaro on Sunday ahead of a lying-in-state ceremony scheduled for Monday.

According to the announcement, the ceremony will hold at the Pavillon, Ilaro, from 11:00 a.m.

Kosoko, while announcing the death, prayed for the repose of Hassan’s soul and strength for his family, colleagues, friends and other loved ones to cope with the loss.

The burial was also confirmed by Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, who shared an announcement from the Ilaro Muslim Community.

The community announced that the burial prayer for Ogogo would be held at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground in Ilaro at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

The announcement was attributed to the Chief Imam of Ilaro.

Hassan’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed publicly for medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.

The sisters made the appeal on social media on Monday, August 17, seeking medical advice and assistance for the actor.

Kaira had disclosed that doctors treating their father informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition.

Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry and was particularly recognised for his contributions to Yoruba-language cinema.

His death is expected to be widely mourned across Nollywood, especially among practitioners and audiences of Yoruba films, where he established a notable presence over the years.
