Tears flowed at the Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan, on Tuesday as the widow of late gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, broke down while paying tribute to her husband.

A gathering of family members, friends, colleagues and gospel industry stakeholders had converged on the venue for a Night of Tributes held in honour of the singer, who died on October 14, 2026.

Toluwanisings’ wife, dressed in white in line with the event’s dress code, mounted the stage to speak about her late husband but struggled to contain her emotions.

Holding the microphone, she tearfully said, “Toluwanisings, my dear husband, I will forever miss you. Please do not forget your children and me.”

She subsequently broke down in tears as friends and family members moved towards her to offer comfort.

A video clip of the emotional moment has since circulated widely on social media, showing the widow weeping uncontrollably on stage as sympathisers gathered around her.

The tribute night, which celebrated Toluwanisings’ life, ministry and influence, featured prayers, worship sessions, spoken tributes and reflections on his contribution to gospel music.

The singer was remembered for his energetic praise style and songs including “A Very Big God,” “Eleda” and “I’m Not Alone.”

Friends and colleagues described him as a humble and passionate worshipper whose ministry touched many lives.

Among those who attended were gospel filmmaker and singer Laolu Gbenjo, actress Bimbo Oshin, gospel artiste Bidemi Olaoba, music producer and media personality SB Live, and producer Akintayo Akinwande.

Gbenjo was among the early arrivals at the venue, while Olaoba, who had previously paid tribute to Toluwanisings online with a rendition of one of his songs, also joined the gathering to honour his colleague.

Oshin and other guests appeared in white as mourners shared memories of the late singer and celebrated his impact on the gospel creative community.

The event was organised against the backdrop of continuing controversy surrounding Toluwanisings’ death and burial arrangements.

The singer died after reportedly slumping in Ibadan.

His personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, had alleged that attempts were made to obtain emergency medical attention at several hospitals, but the claims have not been independently established.

Meanwhile, members of Toluwanisings’ paternal family have called for an investigation into the circumstances of his death and demanded that his planned burial be suspended.

The family has also disagreed with his widow over his proposed final resting place.

Despite the tensions surrounding the funeral arrangements, Tuesday’s gathering provided an opportunity for colleagues, friends, family members and fans to focus on the singer’s life and musical legacy.

The family had earlier announced the October 27 tribute night through the singer’s social media account, describing it as an occasion for “love, reflection, heartfelt tributes, cherished memories and thanksgiving to God.”

Toluwanisings’ death was announced by his family on October 15, with the family describing him as a beloved husband, family member and gospel minister.
