President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa, was attended by the ministers’ spouses and top government officials.
The appointments followed the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue governorship ambitions in their respective states
Both nominees were screened and confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026, before their formal inauguration by the president.
A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Tegbe as a seasoned fiscal and institutional reform expert with more than three decades of experience in both the public and private sectors.
The Ibadan-born minister holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, alongside Master’s degrees in Business Administration from Switzerland and Public Administration from Birmingham.
According to the statement, Tegbe previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he coordinated several high-level reform initiatives and advised governments on policy implementation and institutional restructuring.
He was also involved in fiscal policy reforms at different levels of government and worked with organisations including the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN and the Odu’a Group.
Enikanolaiye, who hails from Igbagun in Kogi State, earned a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, where he emerged as the best graduating student in his faculty.
He later obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy with distinction from the University of Lagos.
The statement noted that Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary in 2016 before retiring from service in 2017 after 35 years.
During his diplomatic career, he served in Nigeria’s missions in Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada and the United Kingdom, with his last foreign posting as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in India.
Before he was appointed minister, he served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
The statement added that the diplomat had received several honours, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award and the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award.
