President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 individuals into the leadership and governing boards of 10 federal agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose emerging as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced on Monday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Fayose will chair the REA board alongside Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors.
The board also includes the agency’s Director-General, Abba Aliyu, as well as three previously appointed executive directors.
President Tinubu also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission, where he will oversee a newly constituted leadership team.
Former member of the House of Representatives, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was named Secretary of the commission, while Ogbole Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Barde will serve as commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively.
Other members appointed to the commission are Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Tor (Enugu), Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Iyabode (Kogi).
In another key development, the President reassigned Tosin Adeyanju from his earlier position as Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) to serve as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.
The presidency also announced several fresh appointments across strategic government institutions.
Abuh Mohammed was appointed Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), while Akinola Odeyemi will serve as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET).
Anthony Godwin was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Julius Oloro, a former local government council chairman, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Kwara State, replacing A. R. Kamal, who passed away in January.
President Tinubu also approved the constitution of the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, appointing Abdullahi Saidu as Chairman.
Other members of the board are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Makama, Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola.
In the education sector, Shuni Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, succeeding Shu’aibu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF) in April.
The President further appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), replacing Mathias Byuan, who resigned to pursue the Benue State governorship.
According to the Presidency, Iorja is an economist, legal scholar and academic currently serving as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
The presidency said all the appointments are effective immediately.
