A retired staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan”, and her security guard have been killed by unidentified gunmen at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.
The victims were reportedly found dead in the early hours of Sunday, sending shockwaves through the community and among media professionals in Ogun State.
According to information gathered, the tragic discovery was made by church members who became concerned after Oyesiku failed to attend a church service.
A source familiar with the incident said the church members visited her residence to check on her welfare when they stumbled upon the gruesome scene.
“What we heard was that some church members went to check on Mrs Oyesiku because they did not see her in church. When they arrived at her residence, they discovered that the security guard had been killed. They later found that Mrs Oyesiku had also been murdered by the attackers. That was when they alerted members of the community,” the source disclosed.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, and authorities have yet to provide details on the motive behind the killings or whether any suspects have been identified.
The bodies of the deceased were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command was aware of the development and would issue an official statement on the matter.
Before her retirement, Oyesiku was a familiar figure in the state’s broadcasting industry, having served with the state-owned television station for several years.
Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief from former colleagues, friends, and residents who remembered her contributions to the media profession and community development.
As investigations continue, residents have called on security agencies to ensure those responsible for the killings are apprehended and brought to justice.
