The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man for the alleged defilement of a 12-year-old girl in Ibadan
The arrest is part of a series of recent criminal investigations, which also include a suspected murder case and the death of a motorcyclist in Iseyin.
In a statement released Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer Ayanlade Olayinka identified the suspect as “Abule”.
The suspect allegedly lured the child into an uncompleted building in the Araromi area of Molete while she was attempting to collect payment for snacks she was hawking.
Officers from the Sanyo Division responded to the scene immediately following the report.
The victim was subsequently taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga has directed that the case be transferred to the command’s Gender Department for specialised investigation.
The Commissioner emphasised the command’s resolve to ensure that perpetrators of such heinous acts face the full weight of the law.
Oyo police also confirmed that investigations are ongoing regarding the arrest of a second suspect in a suspected murder case and the recent fatal accident involving a motorcyclist in Iseyin.
