The Oyo State Police Command said it has arrested four suspected armed robbers and cult members during a raid on their hideout in the Soka area of Oluyole Local Government Area, Ibadan.

The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit following intelligence reports linking them to criminal activities across the Ibadan metropolis.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the operation was carried out in the early hours of June 10 after security operatives received credible information about the activities of a notorious criminal gang operating within the area.

Ayanlade said intelligence gathered by the police indicated that the suspects were preparing to launch another criminal operation before they were intercepted.

“On Friday, June 10, 2026, at approximately 6am, operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on credible intelligence, received information that members of a notorious criminal syndicate known for terrorising residents at various locations within the Ibadan metropolis were operating in the area,” he stated.

“The intelligence reports revealed the suspects were planning to embark on another criminal operation within the community at the time of the arrest.”

The police identified the suspects as Salawu Sarafa, also known as Folori; Yusuf Tajudeen, popularly called Blacky; Farouq Ariyo; and Adebayo Awosemo, alias Naira.

A locally made pistol was recovered during the operation, according to the police.

The command further disclosed that the suspects admitted being members of the Eiye Supremo Confraternity during preliminary interrogation.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Eiye Supremo Confraternity and admitted their involvement in a series of violent criminal activities within the Ibadan metropolis and its environs,” Ayanlade added.

The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to track down other members of the criminal network who remain at large.

He noted that investigators had intensified operations aimed at dismantling the gang and uncovering the full scope of its activities, while further investigations continue to identify additional accomplices connected to the syndicate.

The command reiterated its commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring the safety of residents across Oyo State.
