A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Gbemileke Alagbe, has approached the Federal High Court in Ibadan seeking judicial recognition as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Alagbe, through his lawyer, Abayomi Idowu, filed a 16-paragraph ex parte motion asking the court to declare him the valid winner of the ADC governorship primary election reportedly conducted on May 22 in Ibadan.
In the application, the aspirant urged the court to affirm the outcome of the primary in his favour and prevent the party from presenting any alternative result or candidate for the election.
He further requested an order directing the Oyo State chapter of the ADC to issue him a certificate of return as the party’s governorship flag bearer.
Alagbe also asked the court to restrain the party from forwarding the name of any other aspirant to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting that he emerged victorious in the primary election.
According to his counsel, the matter requires urgent judicial intervention because of INEC’s deadline for political parties to submit the names of their candidates.
Idowu informed the court that all parties are expected to forward their candidates’ details to the electoral commission by June 26, 2026, making an expedited hearing necessary.
After considering the application, Justice Uche Agomoh ordered that the originating summons be served on the respondents in the suit.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until June 25 for the hearing of all pending applications.
The outcome of the case is expected to determine who eventually flies the ADC flag in the Oyo State governorship contest.
