The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has said an APC administration in Osun State under the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would prioritise community-based infrastructure tailored to the specific needs of residents.
Basiru made the pledge on Friday during the APC governorship campaign tour of communities in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas, speaking at the palace of the Olufon of Ifon Orolu, Peter Akinyooye.
According to him, the proposed administration would begin by carrying out needs assessments in communities before embarking on projects, ensuring that infrastructure provided aligns with local priorities.
“The first thing that the government of Bola Oyebamiji under our party is going to do is to provide community intervention infrastructure across the wards in Osun. We don’t need to give a community water if they don’t need it. There must be a needs assessment,” Basiru said.
The APC national scribe also criticised the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, arguing that despite increased federal allocations to states since the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu, residents had not seen corresponding improvements in community infrastructure.
He claimed that allocations from the Federation Account had risen significantly in recent years, citing figures of N586 billion shared nationally in April 2023, compared with N2.2 trillion in April 2026, N2.3 trillion in May and N2.7 trillion in June.
Basiru questioned how the increased revenues had translated into development across Osun’s 332 political wards and numerous rural communities.
“There is something called community infrastructure, and that is lacking in the present administration in Osun State. We have 332 wards. Out of the 332 wards, we have several communities. So what are the infrastructures in these communities from the over N2 trillion?” he asked.
Speaking at the campaign event, Oyebamiji promised an inclusive government focused on balanced development if elected in the state’s next governorship election.
He said his administration would avoid concentrating on a single sector, pledging simultaneous investment in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and the growth of the state’s micro-economy.
“Like our party scribe rightly said, we won’t prioritise roads over education, healthcare delivery, agriculture development or the micro economy. We will ensure all-round development and improve the business atmosphere of the state for indigenes and residents irrespective of their political affiliation,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC governorship candidate added that his administration would pursue policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents and creating a more conducive environment for businesses across Osun State.
