The Osun State Police Command has arrested four men over the alleged burglary of a mobile phone shop and theft of handsets valued at approximately N5 million in Osogbo, the state capital.
Police operatives reportedly recovered two Itel mobile phones during a raid on a suspected hideout in the Oja-Oba area, where the incident was reported.
The suspects were identified as Afeez Arole, 30; Salami Wahab Idowu, 49; Akanmu Afeez, 37; and Adebisi Taofeek, 47.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, the shop owner reported the burglary on September 1, 2026, at about 10 p.m.
The complainant told the police that suspected hoodlums had broken into his shop and carted away different types of mobile phones worth approximately N5 million.
Following the report, the Command said it launched efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the alleged crime.
Police investigations reportedly yielded a breakthrough on September 22, when operatives received intelligence that suspected hoodlums had been sighted around the Oja-Oba area.
The statement said the information, received at about 6:30 p.m., prompted intelligence-led surveillance and further investigations, culminating in a raid on a suspected criminal hideout.
The operation led to the arrest of the four suspects and the recovery of two Itel mobile phones.
The police said the complainant subsequently identified the recovered handsets as part of the phones allegedly stolen from his shop.
According to the Command, the suspects have made statements to investigators as efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged burglary and determine the individual roles of the four men.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura has directed the investigating team to intensify efforts to identify and arrest other suspected members of the alleged criminal network.
He also ordered further efforts to recover additional items reportedly stolen during the incident.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The Command said continued cooperation between residents and the police would assist efforts to tackle criminal activities across the state.
