Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has urged voters in Osun State to elect the party’s governorship candidate, Najeem Folasayo Salaam, describing the ADC as different from other political parties contesting Saturday’s election.
Atiku made the call on Monday in Osogbo during the grand finale of the ADC governorship campaign, where he appealed to residents to support Salaam and entrust the party with the responsibility of governing the state.
The former vice president said he personally travelled to Osun alongside political associates to rally support for the ADC candidate and make a final appeal to voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
According to him, the ADC has emerged as a platform that accommodates what he described as “the best of Nigerians”, setting it apart from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Accord and other political parties participating in the election.
“I have come today to appeal to you to vote for the ADC. This is because the ADC I can assure you is different from APC, is different from Accord, is different from all other parties because the best of Nigerians is today in ADC,” Atiku said.
He expressed confidence that voters would not regret supporting Salaam, urging them to repeat the support they had previously given him and the party.
“I believe you will not regret voting ADC in the forthcoming elections, that is why I have come personally to relate with you, to thank you for your previous support and to appeal to you to vote ADC in the next gubernatorial election,” he said.
Atiku said the ADC’s objective was to provide purposeful leadership, good governance and a better future for the people of Osun State.
He also thanked party supporters for their large turnout at the campaign finale, saying their presence had boosted the party’s confidence ahead of the poll.
The rally was attended by the ADC National Chairman, David Mark; the party’s National Secretary and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola; and other party leaders and supporters.
Salaam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, is the ADC candidate in the August 15 governorship election.
The election will also feature incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is contesting under the Accord Party, and the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, alongside candidates of other political parties.
Atiku’s appearance at the campaign finale comes as political parties intensify their mobilisation efforts across Osun ahead of Saturday’s poll, with candidates seeking to consolidate support in the final days of the campaign.
