The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of 46-year-old businessman Akinbolusere Kayode, popularly known as Tolufe, who was found dead in his office in Igba Town.

Kayode, owner of Esther Estate in Ondo State, reportedly died on Thursday, October 29, 2026, shortly after recording a video in which he spoke about his family, business difficulties and plans to bequeath his properties to his wife and three children.

Police are treating the death as a suspected suicide, but said investigations would determine the actual cause of death.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the deceased, who resided at Road 7, Housing Estate, Igba, was found dead in his office beside BOVAS Petrol Station at about 3pm.

Jimoh said members of the public alerted the police, following which operatives attached to the Bolorunduro Division visited the scene.

“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives attached to Bolorunduro Division visited the scene, where two empty bottles suspected to have contained Sniper insecticide were recovered from nearby bush,” the statement said.

The police spokesperson added that preliminary findings showed that Kayode had allegedly recorded a video before his death.

The recording, which has since circulated on social media, contained his reflections on his personal and business struggles.

His remains were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Morgue for preservation and further examination.

Police said no foul play or visible marks of violence were observed on the body during the initial examination.

In the video, Kayode spoke about his decision to leave his properties to his wife, Akinbolusere Esther, and their three children, who are based in Canada.

He insisted that he was making the decision voluntarily and that nobody had pressured him.

“I am doing this video on behalf of my family. I, Akinbolusere Kayode, am doing my will on my properties. I am doing this on my own; nobody put pressure on me,” he said.

The businessman also spoke about difficulties affecting his business operations, including faults reportedly developed by some of the machines he relied on for his work.

Reflecting on his journey, Kayode said he started from humble beginnings and recalled his days as a barber.

He credited his wife with supporting him through difficult periods before his businesses became established.

“My wife knew how I suffered. She didn’t trouble me. I will all my properties to my wife, Akinbolusere Esther, who hails from Ekiti, and my three children who are in Canada,” he said.

Kayode also expressed regret over what he described as his own mistakes and acknowledged his wife’s support throughout their marriage.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death to establish its actual cause.

The command urged members of the public to avoid speculation while the investigation continues.

It also advised people experiencing emotional distress, marital difficulties or other personal challenges to seek timely support and assistance rather than taking actions that could endanger their lives.

The incident has attracted attention in Ondo following the circulation of the businessman’s final video and reports of his death.
