Former Osun State Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his total support for the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s election.
Omisore made the commitment on Friday when he hosted the Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji, and his Kogi State counterpart, Ahmed Usman Ododo, at his residence in Osogbo.
The visit was part of strategic engagements by APC governors with key stakeholders as the party intensifies efforts to secure victory for Oyebamiji and return Osun State to the APC-led progressive fold.
During the meeting, Oyebanji and Ododo sought Omisore’s support and urged him to deploy his political network and influence across the state in favour of the APC candidate.
The governors described Saturday’s poll as one of the most consequential elections in Osun’s political history, stressing the need for party stakeholders to place the collective interest of the APC above previous disagreements.
They also urged stakeholders to support the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu, which they said had continued to improve the fortunes and development capacity of states across Nigeria.
According to them, Osun could not afford to remain outside the progressive mainstream, urging party leaders to unite behind Oyebamiji and support an administration that would align with the federal government’s development agenda.
Responding, Omisore thanked the two governors for the visit and pledged his commitment to the success of the APC and the emergence of Oyebamiji as the next governor of Osun State.
“I want to thank the two governors for coming to see me and for the honour they have done me. I remain committed to the success of our party and to the emergence of our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, as the next Governor of Osun State,” he said.
Omisore said previous disagreements had been put aside, noting that his priority was now the victory of the APC and the development of Osun State.
“Whatever disagreements we had in the past are effectively behind us. What matters now is the victory of the APC and the progress of Osun State. I am fully committed to this cause,” he added.
The former APC National Secretary further disclosed that he had activated his political structure across the state to mobilise support for Oyebamiji, describing the election as a “must-win” contest for the party.
“I have activated my political structure. For us, tomorrow’s election is a must-win. I am very optimistic about our chances because the people of Osun are progressive-minded,” Omisore said.
“We are going into this election with confidence, unity and a clear determination to deliver victory for Bola Oyebamiji and the APC.”
Omisore’s declaration is expected to strengthen the APC’s efforts to consolidate its political structure ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
His latest commitment follows his public backing of Oyebamiji alongside other prominent Osun political figures.
The APC had also recently incorporated Omisore into its National Campaign Council for the election.
The development signals renewed efforts by the party to close ranks among its influential stakeholders and mobilise its political structures across Osun ahead of the poll.
