The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has unanimously adopted Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general election, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle.

The decision was reached on Sunday during a high-level party gathering involving stakeholders, executives, and key leaders across the state, who collectively endorsed Adebutu as the standard-bearer of the opposition party.

In his acceptance speech, Adebutu described the development as historic, expressing deep appreciation to party members for the confidence reposed in him.

He said the consensus reflected unity within the party and a shared determination to reposition the PDP for electoral victory in Ogun State.

The former federal lawmaker, who is now set to lead the party’s governorship campaign, declared that the PDP remains united and focused on reclaiming power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

He urged members of the party to sustain internal harmony, stressing that peace and cohesion would be critical to the PDP’s success at the polls.

According to him, without unity, the ambition to govern Ogun State could be undermined.

“Peaceful coexistence is the only assurance that can guarantee our reclaiming of Ogun State from the hands of the clueless APC government and its allies,” he stated.

Adebutu also argued that Ogun State, despite its vast human and natural resources, has underperformed due to what he described as poor governance and lack of strategic direction.

He called for a renewed focus on leadership that prioritises development and citizens’ welfare.

“Our collective responsibility now should be focused on returning our party to the seat of power in Oke-Mosan in order to rescue our people from suffering,” he added, referencing the seat of government in the state.

The PDP candidate also commended other aspirants who stepped down in favour of the consensus arrangement, describing their decision as a demonstration of loyalty and commitment to the party’s collective progress.

He insisted that no stakeholder had lost out in the process, as the outcome was a victory for the party as a whole.

“There is no loser among us; we have all won for the party and for the good people of Ogun State,” he said.

Adebutu further assured party members that the PDP would soon unveil its governance blueprint ahead of the 2027 elections, promising a focus on development-driven policies and improved service delivery if elected.

The endorsement signals the beginning of an early and strategic mobilisation by the PDP as it positions itself to challenge the ruling APC in one of Nigeria’s politically significant states.
