The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obasa secured the party’s ticket unopposed during the APC primary election conducted on Saturday across the 13 political wards in the constituency.

The endorsement followed his formal declaration of interest at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Agege on May 13, where party delegates and members reportedly rallied behind his candidacy.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Obasa appreciated party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and residents of Agege for what he described as overwhelming support and confidence in his aspiration.

“I am sincerely grateful to our party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and the good people of Agege for the overwhelming support and confidence shown in yesterday’s APC House of Representatives primary election,” he stated.

According to him, the outcome of the primary reflected the trust of party members and residents in his vision for improved representation and grassroots development.

He pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him, saying he would focus on attracting more federal projects and opportunities to the constituency if elected into the National Assembly in 2027.

Obasa listed youth empowerment, infrastructure development, improved education, healthcare delivery and economic growth initiatives among his priorities.

“At the National Assembly, I will continue to champion the interests of Agege by pushing for more federal presence, youth empowerment opportunities, improved infrastructure, quality education, better healthcare delivery and economic initiatives that will directly impact our people,” he said.

The Lagos Assembly Speaker also promised to maintain close interaction with constituents and ensure effective representation in Abuja.

“I will also remain accessible to the grassroots, maintain constant engagement with constituents and ensure that the voices of our people are heard loudly and clearly in Abuja,” he stated.

Describing the primary victory as a collective achievement, Obasa said the mandate belonged to loyal party members, supporters and residents committed to continuity and progress in the constituency.

One of the most influential political figures in Lagos State, Obasa has served as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly for over a decade.

The APC House of Representatives primaries commenced nationwide on Saturday following an adjustment to the timetable by the party’s National Working Committee as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
