Nollywood actress and politician Funke Adesiyan has officially withdrawn her candidacy for the House of Representatives seat representing the Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
Adesiyan announced her decision in a letter addressed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman of the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area. The letter, which she shared on Facebook, was dated April 24, 2026.
Describing the move as both “personal and deliberate”, the actress stated that the decision followed extensive reflections and high-level consultations.
She noted that her choice stemmed from a careful assessment of the current political landscape and her desire to maintain a commitment to credibility and purposeful service.
“This decision is personal, deliberate, and guided by a clear assessment of the broader political landscape, as well as my commitment to long-term value, credibility and purposeful service,” Adesiyan said.
The actress-turned-politician expressed deep gratitude to her supporters and stakeholders for their encouragement throughout her campaign.
She emphasised that stepping down at this juncture would allow her to refocus her efforts.
Adesiyan intends to continue contributing to the progress of Oyo State and Nigeria through other strategic avenues rather than direct electoral competition.
“At this time, I consider it more important to step back with clarity and focus, while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of our people through other strategic avenues,” she added.
