The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, over the alleged killing of his father, Adone Peter, in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
The command disclosed that the incident, which occurred on May 28, 2026, followed a violent confrontation between the suspect and his 65-year-old father.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said preliminary investigations indicated that the argument escalated into a physical assault during which the deceased sustained serious head injuries.
According to the police spokesperson, the victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment after the attack but later died while receiving medical attention.
Jimoh stated that the incident had generated anxiety among residents of the community, adding that the suspect was taken into custody after the matter was reported to the police by his brother.
“The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Nsikak Kingsley for his alleged involvement in the death of his biological father, Adone Peter, aged 65 years,” the statement read.
“The tragic incident occurred in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State and has generated widespread concern among residents of the area.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that on 28th May, 2026, the suspect allegedly engaged his father in a violent altercation which escalated into a physical assault. During the confrontation, the deceased reportedly sustained severe injuries, particularly to the head.
“He was immediately rushed to a medical facility for urgent medical attention. Sadly, despite efforts by medical personnel, the attending doctor confirmed him dead while receiving treatment.”
The police said operatives moved swiftly after receiving the complaint and successfully apprehended the suspect for further investigation.
The command did not disclose the exact cause of the disagreement between the father and son but assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
The incident adds to growing concerns over cases of domestic violence and family-related killings recorded in parts of the country in recent years.
In a similar development in 2024, the Lagos State Police Command arrested a 25-year-old man, Chibunnma Chimelie, for allegedly stabbing his 68-year-old father to death in the Isolo area of Lagos.
