Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has appointed Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, as his new Chief of Staff, hours after Segun Ogunwuyi resigned from the position.

Makinde also appointed his Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies, Aderonke Adedayo, as Director-General of the state’s Due Process Office.

Both appointments take immediate effect, according to a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, in Ibadan.

The appointments were conveyed in letters signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

Akinwole, who previously served as chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, was described by the state government as a grassroots politician.

His appointment followed Ogunwuyi’s resignation, announced in a letter dated October 12, 2026.

Ogunwuyi said his resignation took immediate effect and expressed gratitude to Makinde for the opportunity to serve the state.

“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour,” he said in the resignation letter.

He also expressed confidence in the continued progress of the state, adding that he remained proud of the administration’s collective efforts towards Oyo State’s growth and development.

Ogunwuyi, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, did not disclose the reason for his departure.

His resignation brings an end to his tenure as Makinde’s Chief of Staff, a position he had occupied since July 2021, when he replaced Bisi Ilaka.

Meanwhile, Adedayo will retain her existing position as Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies while assuming responsibility for the Due Process Office.

The office plays a role in the state government’s public procurement and due process framework.

Congratulating the appointees, Makinde urged them to discharge their responsibilities with loyalty, commitment and dedication to the service of Oyo State.
