A group of aggrieved aspirants who participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives and House of Assembly primaries in Lagos State has denied allegations that the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, sponsored a recent protest by dissatisfied party members.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the aspirants described reports linking Obasa to the peaceful demonstration as false and misleading, insisting that the protest was independently organised by party members seeking to express concerns over the conduct and outcome of the primaries.

The group said the protest was motivated by alleged discrepancies between the results recorded during the primary elections and the outcomes announced by party authorities.

According to the aspirants, participants were drawn from several state and federal constituencies across Lagos and included both contestants and their supporters.

They alleged that irregularities such as manipulation of results, distortion of outcomes, cheating and non-compliance with established party guidelines informed their decision to publicly voice their grievances.

The aspirants argued that their concerns reflected the frustrations of party members who committed substantial time, resources and political effort to the electoral process.

They maintained that the issues raised were genuine and deserved attention rather than dismissal.

Rejecting suggestions that the protest was orchestrated by the Lagos Assembly Speaker, the group said it was wrong to assume that party members required sponsorship before speaking out against what they considered flaws in the primary election process.

According to the statement, attempts to associate Obasa with the demonstration were designed to divert attention from the substantive concerns raised by dissatisfied aspirants and shift focus away from demands for fairness, justice and reconciliation within the party.

The group stressed that peaceful protests remain a legitimate democratic means through which party members can seek redress and draw attention to perceived irregularities.

Protesters urged APC stakeholders to address the issues raised instead of engaging in accusations that could further deepen divisions within the party.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the aspirants called on party leaders to prioritise reconciliation and resolve disputes arising from the primaries.

They noted that the APC’s strength has historically been tied to its ability to accommodate differing views, address internal challenges and emerge stronger through dialogue and fairness.

The statement further stated that resolving the concerns of aggrieved aspirants would reinforce confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes and help foster greater unity ahead of future elections.

The aspirants also appealed to party leaders and stakeholders to avoid personalising or politicising the grievances being raised and instead focus on finding lasting solutions capable of preserving party cohesion and enhancing the party’s electoral prospects.

The statement was jointly signed by Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, Hon. Seye Oladejo, Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba, Hon. Noheem Adams, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Hon. Apata Olu Samuel, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi, Hon. Abiodun Azeez Ninolowo and Hon. Doherty Olukoya David on behalf of the Body of Lagos APC Aggrieved House of Representatives and House of Assembly Aspirants.
