Veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs will be laid to rest on Friday, October 2, 2026, as his family concludes funeral arrangements for the celebrated actor whose career spanned more than five decades.
Jacobs, whose full name is Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, will be honoured with a Night of Tributes on Wednesday, September 30, followed by a funeral service two days later.
According to the family, the Night of Tributes is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Glover Memorial Hall, 19 Marina Road, Lagos Island. Guests attending the ceremony are expected to wear shades of blue.
His funeral service will hold at 10 a.m. on Friday at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, with shades of green designated as the dress code.
Ahead of the ceremonies, Jacobs’ widow and fellow veteran actress, Joke Silva, has formally invited President Bola Tinubu to attend both events.
In a letter dated September 23, 2026, and addressed to the president, Silva thanked Tinubu for his condolence message following Jacobs’ death and for acknowledging the actor’s contribution to Nigeria’s creative industry.
She said the president’s message and prayers had provided comfort to the family during their period of mourning.
Silva subsequently invited Tinubu to join the family as they celebrate Jacobs’ life, career and enduring legacy in the Nigerian creative sector.
“Your Excellency’s presence would be a great honour to our family and would mean a great deal to us as we gather to pay our final respects to a man who devoted over five decades of his life to the arts and to the enrichment of Nigeria’s cultural heritage,” Silva wrote.
The family described Jacobs as an artist who dedicated more than 50 years to the arts and played a significant role in enriching Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
The veteran actor died at 84 after a protracted illness.
The death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, in a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
His death marked the end of a remarkable career in Nigeria’s theatre, film and television industries, where he became one of the country’s most recognisable actors.
