The Nigerian Army has announced a sweeping redeployment of senior officers, with fresh appointments across operational commands, training institutions and key headquarters positions as part of efforts to bolster national security and improve operational efficiency.
The extensive reshuffle, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
According to the statement, the strategic postings are designed to strengthen the Army’s operational capacity and enhance its ability to tackle evolving security threats across the country.
The redeployment affects field commanders, commandants of military schools and principal staff officers at Army Headquarters.
Among the key appointments, Major General WM Dangana has been named General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, taking over from Major General EF Oyinlola.
Major General EI Okoro was appointed GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE to replace Major General EE Emeka.
The Army further appointed Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola will serve as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri will continue in his role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
As part of measures to reinforce operational leadership and combat readiness, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been appointed Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K Rabiu will head Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
In a move highlighting the Army’s increasing focus on technology-driven security operations, Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.
The statement said the appointment underscores the Army’s commitment to strengthening its capabilities in emerging domains of warfare and technology-based security operations.
At the Defence Headquarters, Major General O Adegbe has been appointed Director of Intelligence and Security.
The reshuffle also covers key military training and educational institutions. Major General KE Chigbu has been named Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.
Other appointments include Major General SO Adejimi as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General FS Etim as Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), and Brigadier General U Ahmad as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
In addition, Major General KO Ukandu has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison will serve as Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
The Chief of Army Staff urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence placed in them by demonstrating professionalism, exemplary leadership, innovation and dedication to the Army’s constitutional responsibilities.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its ongoing transformation agenda, describing it as part of efforts to build a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of addressing both current and emerging security challenges while safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
