Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has endorsed lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi’s bid to represent the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency of Osun State in the House of Representatives in 2027.
Igboho declared his support for the Accord party candidate when Olajengbesi visited him at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by Olajengbesi’s media office, Igboho described his prospective candidacy as an opportunity for a change in representation in the federal constituency, calling the lawyer “a breath of fresh air.”
Olajengbesi is seeking to dislodge the incumbent lawmaker, Oluwole Oke of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives for several years.
Igboho’s endorsement was rooted partly in his longstanding relationship with Olajengbesi, who represented him during his legal troubles in 2021.
Recounting the period, Igboho recalled that security operatives raided his Ibadan residence in July 2021, after which he fled to Benin Republic, where he was detained.
He said Olajengbesi offered him legal support during the difficult period without demanding payment.
“It’s important to have a change in representation in the constituency. Pelumi is a breath of fresh air,” Igboho said.
He added that Olajengbesi also intervened when he wanted to conduct his mother’s burial and faced threats of arrest from the government.
According to Igboho, the lawyer approached National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on his behalf, arguing that he was innocent and should be allowed to proceed with the burial.
Igboho further credited Olajengbesi with supporting him in several other areas, including the formation of the Irun Ekun Security Network, which has a presence in parts of the South-West.
“You stood by me during my difficult season, and I will rally support for your campaign to emerge victorious in the next election,” he said.
While endorsing Olajengbesi, Igboho also urged him to remain accountable to voters if elected.
“However, I want to implore you to fulfil your campaign promises to the good people of Oriade-Obokun Federal Constituency,” he said.
Olajengbesi, a lawyer and public-interest advocate, previously served as spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign in Osun State.
His political activities have increasingly focused on the 2027 House of Representatives contest.
Speaking during the visit, Olajengbesi said Oriade/Obokun required vibrant youth representation and a departure from the recycling of old ideas.
He pledged, if elected, to pursue effective representation and programmes aimed at promoting development across the constituency.
The endorsement comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and prospective candidates already mobilising across Osun State.
Igboho has also taken positions on the 2027 political contest beyond the constituency race.
In March 2026, he publicly declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, while asserting that his political choices were based on the security and collective interests of the Yoruba people.
