A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general elections.

The primary election was conducted on Sunday across all 33 local government areas of Oyo State, with accredited delegates participating in the exercise to select the party’s flagbearer.

Collation of results was held at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ibadan, the state capital, in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party stakeholders, and security agencies.

The Chairman of the PDP gubernatorial primary election in the state, Tolulope Awoniyi, announced the final results after collation, declaring Gbolarumi the winner.

According to the official figures, Gbolarumi polled 3,615 votes to defeat his sole opponent, Beulah Adeoye, who scored 22 votes.

A total of 3,640 delegates were accredited out of 3,694 registered members, reflecting a high level of participation in the exercise.

Awoniyi subsequently declared Gbolarumi duly elected as the PDP governorship candidate for Oyo State, confirming his status as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 gubernatorial contest.

The outcome positions Gbolarumi as one of the key contenders in the emerging political landscape of Oyo State ahead of the next general elections.
