The Ibadan Branch of the Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has elected Oluwatomiwa James Fadeyi as its new chairman following a keenly contested election held in Ibadan.
Fadeyi secured victory after polling 34 votes to defeat Awere Bolanle Ajoke, who garnered 12 votes in the election conducted at the Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The election, which was monitored by the branch’s electoral committee, produced a new executive team that will oversee the affairs of the forum for the next two years.
According to the results released by the Electoral Committee, other officials elected alongside Fadeyi include Taiwo Oladipupo as vice-chairman, Kayode Kareem as secretary, Nifemi Bamisaye as assistant secretary, Aminat Amoo as financial secretary/treasurer, Bukola Onyewenu as social secretary, and Damilola Israel Olujimi as publicity secretary.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Kehinde Sennuga, and the Secretary, Basit Oluwatimileyin Busari, the newly elected officers officially assumed office on Friday.
Speaking after his victory, Fadeyi thanked members of the forum for participating in the election despite the Democracy Day public holiday, describing their support as a demonstration of commitment to the growth of the association.
He said the mandate entrusted to him comes with significant responsibility and pledged to serve with humility, fairness and dedication.
“Beyond being grateful, I wish to state that I am fully aware of the responsibility that this new mandate connotes, and I am ready to carry same with deep humility, impartiality, and all seriousness,” he said.
Fadeyi previously served as president of the Adeleke University Students Association during his undergraduate years.
He currently holds the position of Head of Chambers at Adebayo and Gbadamosi (SAN) Chambers, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
His emergence marks the beginning of a new administration for the young lawyers’ body, which serves as a platform for professional development, networking and advocacy for young legal practitioners within the Ibadan branch of the NBA.
