A wave of suspected cult-related violence has continued to unsettle parts of Lagos State, with a man identified simply as Obasanjo killed in the Egbeda area in the early hours of Wednesday.

The latest incident comes amid a string of recent attacks linked to rival cult groups across the state, which has raised fresh concerns over escalating insecurity.

According to residents, the deceased was allegedly a member of the Eiye Confraternity and had only recently been released from a correctional facility.

He was reportedly attacked near the Lion of Judah area, close to Okunola bus stop, by suspected members of the rival Aiye Confraternity.

Witnesses said Obasanjo was walking in the neighbourhood when he was ambushed.

He was also alleged to have been under the influence of hard drugs at the time of the attack, although this claim could not be independently verified.

The Egbeda killing occurred barely days after a series of related incidents in other parts of Lagos.

On Monday, a man identified as Elubu was shot near the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) by suspected Aiye cult members.

Although initially feared dead, he survived after being rushed to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the head.

In what appeared to be a reprisal attempt, suspected members of the Eiye confraternity reportedly stormed the YABATECH College in search of the victim.

The attackers were said to have chased him to a nearby tricycle park, where he was shot at close range.
