The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stepped up preparations for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election by constituting a National Campaign Council and several specialised sub-committees to coordinate its campaign activities.
The party announced that the council will be chaired by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the statement, the composition of the campaign council was approved through a notice signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.
The APC said the campaign structure is designed to mobilise party leaders and stakeholders nationwide in support of its candidate as political activities intensify ahead of the off-cycle governorship election in Osun State.
The statement named Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas as co-chairmen of the campaign council.
Also appointed are Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who will serve as Deputy Chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will act as Secretary of the council.
According to the party, the council draws its membership from across the country and includes governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, as well as other prominent party stakeholders.
“The Council comprises eminent Party leaders, governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state legislators, and other key stakeholders drawn from across the country to drive the Party’s campaign towards victory,” the statement said.
To strengthen coordination ahead of the election, the APC also constituted a series of sub-committees assigned to oversee critical aspects of the campaign.
The committees will handle election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots engagement, logistics and campaign management, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women’s mobilisation, mobilisation of persons with disabilities, and secretariat operations.
The party said the specialised committees are expected to ensure efficient planning and implementation of campaign activities across the state.
The APC further announced that both the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will be formally inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre in Abuja.
Osun State is among the states conducting off-cycle governorship elections this year, with major political parties intensifying campaigns and strategic mobilisation as they seek victory in the forthcoming poll.
