The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has expanded his campaign organisation by appointing key political figures as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.
The latest appointments come shortly after the emergence of Yemi Aderibigbe as Director-General of the campaign, a move the party says is aimed at building a broad-based and effective structure ahead of the poll.
Announcing the appointments in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, Alli said the new campaign team was designed to strengthen coordination across the state and ensure wider participation within the party.
According to the statement, Hon. Sola Ogunbode has been named Deputy Director-General and will assist the Director-General in overseeing campaign operations across Oyo State.
Three Assistant Directors-General were also appointed to coordinate activities in the state’s senatorial districts.
Lowo Obisesan will oversee Oyo South, Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Alarape will coordinate Oyo Central, while Hon. Rasaq Raji will serve as Assistant Director-General for Oyo North.
The senator, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said the appointments would strengthen grassroots mobilisation, improve campaign coordination and position the APC for the 2027 governorship contest.
He expressed confidence in the appointees’ capacity, describing them as experienced politicians with proven leadership credentials and a strong commitment to the party’s success.
Alli also assured APC members that the campaign would be inclusive, urging party faithful to remain united ahead of the election.
“Let me assure all our party men and women that this campaign will be all-inclusive. No one will be left behind. Every ward, every local government, every interest group within our party has a role to play in this project.
“We are one APC family. The task ahead is huge, but with unity of purpose, we will achieve it together,” he said.
Raji is a grassroots politician and APC chieftain from Igbeti in Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State, while Alarape, a graduate of Metallurgical Engineering, previously served as Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003. He later became Minority Leader of the Assembly from 2019 to 2023 and also served as Special Adviser during the administration of the late former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Obisesan, a legal practitioner and Ibadan senior chief, formerly served as Commissioner for Environment under the administration of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
The appointments are expected to boost the APC’s grassroots campaign efforts as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
