Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate arrest of all persons allegedly involved in the shooting that killed Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife.
Oyeyemi, a known associate of Adeleke and a member of the Accord Party, was reportedly shot dead on Sunday at Mayfair Garage in Ile-Ife during a confrontation allegedly connected to control of a motor park.
Adeleke, reacting to the incident, directed the state Commissioner of Police to ensure that everyone found to have played a role in the killing is arrested and prosecuted.
The governor also ordered warring groups to immediately vacate motor parks across the state and directed the introduction of a Park Management System to address what he described as longstanding disputes over the control and administration of parks and garages.
“The governor charged the Commissioner of Police to act immediately to arrest all those involved. Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book,” a statement signed by Adeleke’s aide, Olawale Rasheed, said.
Adeleke said the incident was linked to an alleged tussle over leadership of motor parks, amid longstanding tensions surrounding transport activities in parts of Osun State.
He said security agencies had been directed to restore normalcy in affected areas and ensure that peace was sustained across motor parks in the state.
“We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all costs,” the governor said.
Adeleke further disclosed that he would issue an executive order to formally establish the new Park Management System.
“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state,” he said.
Oyeyemi was reportedly involved in transport and motor park management activities in Osun. His death has again drawn attention to disputes surrounding the control of motor parks and transport operations in the state.
Reports have linked the confrontation preceding the shooting to other party members, including Nurudeen Alowonle and the chairman of Ife Mini-Bus, popularly known as Sibi.
However, details of the confrontation remain unclear, and no individual has been officially identified by the police as the suspected shooter.
The Osun State Police Command said it had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Oyeyemi’s shooting.
According to the command, its operatives were initially alerted to an accident around Energy Filling Station in Ile-Ife on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Police personnel were subsequently deployed to restore normalcy, secure the area and begin investigations.
The command said it was working to establish both the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
Oyeyemi had previously faced criminal allegations and legal proceedings but was granted bail in April 2024.
His reported killing has heightened concerns over recurring tensions surrounding motor park control and transport activities in parts of Osun State, with the governor’s proposed Park Management System now set to become a central part of the state government’s response.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as security agencies work to restore normalcy in Ile-Ife and other affected areas.
