Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended President Bola Tinubu for his just-concluded state visit to the United Kingdom, describing the diplomatic engagement as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s economic recovery efforts.
Speaking at the Government House during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Adeleke said the visit presents far-reaching opportunities for Nigeria’s economic and political advancement.
He characterised the engagement as both historic and strategic, noting its potential to open new channels of cooperation between Nigeria and the UK.
The governor praised the president and the federal government for what he termed a “rare honour and opportunity” to advance national interests on the global stage.
According to him, the depth and scope of the visit could serve as a catalyst for meaningful development initiatives across the country.
Adeleke further emphasised the need for subnational governments to build on the momentum generated by the visit, urging state governments to actively pursue partnerships with regional entities within the United Kingdom, as he highlighted prospects for direct collaborations.
“I believe subnational governments should leverage this opportunity to deepen partnerships with their counterparts in the UK. There is immense potential in fostering economic ties, such as collaborations between Osun and regions like Scotland or Wales,” he said.
He also called on the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to take a coordinated approach in maximising the benefits of the visit by extending its impact to state and local levels. According to him, decentralising such international engagements would enhance grassroots development and economic growth.
In addition, the governor used the occasion to felicitate with the Muslim faithful in Osun State and across Nigeria on the successful completion of the 2026 Ramadan, urging continued unity and commitment to peace and progress.
