The Osun State government has defended its handling of public finances, maintaining that resources in Osun State are being prudently managed in accordance with due process and established procurement regulations.
The clarification was issued by the government’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, during an interview on Westernspring Television in Osogbo, which was later shared via the state government’s official X account on Tuesday.
Rasheed rejected allegations from opposition figures accusing the administration of financial mismanagement, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.
He stressed that the state government under Governor Ademola Adeleke adheres strictly to procurement laws, ensuring that all projects are executed based on value-for-money principles.
According to him, infrastructure projects financed by the state are visible and verifiable, with direct benefits for residents across various communities in Osun.
The spokesperson also addressed a widely circulated claim that the governor spent ₦92 billion on feeding, categorically dismissing it as false. “It is a lie from the pit of hell,” Rasheed said, adding that such allegations reflect either “mischief or financial illiteracy.”
He explained that government expenditures are spread across multiple ministries, departments, and agencies, making it inaccurate to attribute aggregated spending figures to a single budget item or office.
Rasheed further accused opposition figures of criticising the administration’s “local content” policy, which prioritises the engagement of Osun-based professionals and contractors in executing government projects.
He noted that the policy is designed to strengthen local capacity and stimulate economic growth within the state.
Highlighting the administration’s infrastructure drive, the spokesperson maintained that all ongoing projects—including roads, bridges, schools, and healthcare facilities—meet acceptable engineering standards and align with best practices.
He cited several completed and ongoing projects, such as bridge construction and road dualisation works, as evidence of the government’s commitment to quality delivery.
Rasheed added that state resources are being strategically deployed across critical sectors, including transportation infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply, staff welfare, pension obligations, and empowerment programmes.
According to him, these investments are aimed at improving living standards and fostering sustainable development across Osun State.
The spokesperson also alleged that certain opposition groups are attempting to hinder governance by seeking control over local government funds, describing such actions as politically motivated.
Despite these challenges, he reiterated that the Adeleke administration remains focused on delivering tangible and measurable outcomes for the people of Osun.
